Thai Lai Village
Nestled in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Nhon Commune, the Thai Lai Village boasts charming and poetic natural landscapes. It is attractive to domestic and foreign visitors thanks to its fresh air and peaceful atmosphere with amazing mountains, charming rivers and beautiful bamboo trees.

In addition, a wide range of fruit trees, including some which originate from the southern region, are planted across the village. Therefore, the village is also known as a ‘southern village’ in the central region.
The village is also famous for its 200-year-old Tich Thien Duong house, which belongs to Mr Do Huu Minh. This house keeps intact some of the special architectural characteristics of an ancient traditional Vietnamese house, including a flour mill, rice mortar, cake mold, and a coal iron and a wood stove. In addition, it features a moss-covered roof, sophisticated carved patterns, and east and west-facing rooms designed by the ancient oriental architecture.
Most notably, the house boasts such impressive outdoor miniatures as an artificial water course, a bird house, and shelters made of bamboo and palm leaves. These are all arranged in accordance with feng shui rules.
Mr Minh said, “Over recent years, the Thai Lai Village has seen a decrease in the number of visitors due to a severe shortage of attractive tourism products. I am making every effort to effectively manage and fully tap the great potential of the Tich Thien Duong house in order to attract more tourists to my house, and the village as a whole”.
Chief of the village, Mr Le Van Vo remarked, “In attempting to make our fruit-tree planting areas more attractive to visitors, the villagers have asked the Hoa Vang District authorities to provide more fruit tree seedlings for them. In May this year, the district’s authorities submitted a proposal to the municipal People’s Committee to develop the 17.6ha Thai Lai Cultural Ecotourism Site”.
Under the proposal, the focus will be on developing the infrastructure, building more drainage systems and enhancing the aesthetic of local landscapes. In addition, new parks and fruit-tree planting areas will be created.

The creative point in architecture and design of the work is not only shown in the contours of the foot and body of this monument but also in the functional integration structure of the support. The three-floor museum house more than 2,500 photos and artifacts, more than 1,900 of which are original and have been collected from Danang and neighboring areas since national reunification in 1975. There are 30 kms of beaches stretching from Danang all the way down to Hoi An and even further south. As you would expect, the beaches further from the city are best, particularly Danang Beach near the Marble Mountain area. My Khe Beach is recognized as one of the most ideal beach of Da Nang City, attracting many locals and tourists alike. It is a nine-kilometer stretch of smooth sand with an average width between 50m and 70m.

The Marble Mountains or Non Nuoc are actually five granite peaks. They are a great half day trip from Danang or as a stopover on the way to Hoi An. There are caves to explore, temples and lots of stairs. The drinks and trinket sellers can get a little annoying but the climb up to the top is worth it and there are plenty of photo opportunities.

My Son was an imperial city during the Cham dynasty, between the 4th and 12th centuries. My Son Sanctuary is a large complex of religious relics that comprises more than 70 architectural works. Nam O Fish Sauce Village
About:
Nestled on Hoa Hiep Ward, Lien Chieu District, the Nam O village is well-known for its fish sauce-making. Its product wins the trust of customers both at home and abroad.
Established in the early 20th century, Nam O is a small fishing village which is regarded as one of the best producers of this delicious dipping sauce. The Nam O village used to support itself by producing firecrackers until the government imposed a ban on them in 1995.
What to explore:
The Nam O brand of fish sauce tastes very different from similar products from elsewhere in the country thanks to its special recipe. An Association of the Nam O Fish Sauce Village has been established and is recognised by the National Office of Intellectual Property of Viet Nam. In addition, the Association has been granted a collective label for its fish sauce product.
Nam O fish sauce is made from long-jawed anchovies with a high protein content which are caught in the 3rd lunar month. Its delicious taste is partly attributed to the fish mixed with salt which is sourced from Ca Na Beach in Ninh Thuan Province. The grains of this salt are white, well-dried, and larger than the salt from other localities. It is dried on a cement floor for between five and seven days, and it is then stored in pottery vats for a few of years before being used to salt the fish. The process of salting the fish starts from the 3rd lunar month and the sauce-making will be finished in the days leading up to the next Tet Festival. Nam O fish sauce is dark red and has a very nice aroma. 
The fish must be freshly caught and of medium size. They are cleaned in sea water before being preserved, not fresh water because this takes away their taste and smell and the fish can go off easily during the long preservation period. The vats must be made from special woods, including jackfruit wood. The fish is mixed with salt and layered in the jars. Over the top layer is placed a grid of bamboo or dried areca bark. The vat is carefully sealed and kept in a dark, dry, clean and cool place away from the wind. After six or seven months, the fish is stirred. When a white yeast substance forms on the top, the grid is taken off. At the beginning of the lunar new year, the preserved mixture is filtered through a piece of silk to create the dark red fish sauce.
Despite its many ups and downs over the past 2 centuries, fish sauce-making in this village still flourishes today due to its special secret recipe. At Tet or on other special occasions, many people in the city and from localities beyond seek to buy bottles of Nam O fish sauce because of its special flavour.

At the north latitude of 15055’20’’ to 16014’10’’ and 107018’30’’ to 108020’00’ east longitude, Da Nang borders Thua Thien Hue province in the north, Quang Nam province in the west and south, and the East Sea in the east. Located in the middle of the country, on north – south trunk roads on road, rail, sea and air, Da Nang is 764km south of Ha Noi and 964 km north of Ho Chi Minh
The city has an area of 1156.53 km ² consists of 06 urban districts (Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Lien Chieu, Ngu Hanh Son, Son Tra, Cam Le) and Hoa Vang rural district, the Hoang Sa island district, with a population of 942 132 inhabitants (as of to 31/11/2010).

Da Nang is located in the tropical climate and monsoon region with high temperatures but less variability.
Two distinct seasons are: dry season (from January to July) and rainy season (from August to December), occasional winter frosts but not bold and not stretched.
The average annual temperature is about 25.90C; the highest average is 28 – 300C mainly in June, July and August. The lowest average is 18 – 230 C mainly in December, January and February. Only Ba Na mountains at an altitude of 1,500 meters, the average temperature is about 200C.
The average air humidity is 83.4%; the highest is about 85.67 – 87.67% in October and November, lowest about 76.67-77.33% in June, July.

How to get there:
You can come to Marble Mountain by many ways including bus, motorbike, bike, taxi, car.
By Bus: If you are in Hoi An City, you maybe go by bus with cheap price. From the center of Hoi An City, you go straight on Ly Thuong Kiet Street as well as Le Hong Phong Street. The bus station is on Le Hong Phong, near Hoi An Silk Village. It takes about 40 minutes to come to Marble Mountain by bus.
By motorbike: If you are in Da Nang City, you can hire motorbike to get there. Firstly, you pass through Han River Bridge and turn right on Ngo Quyen Street. Then you just go straight on that Street to reach the Mountain. It takes about 25 minutes by motorbike from Da Nang City.

On the north – south nation highway, Hai Van Pass is an impressive landscape. It is like a giant dragon, lying on Highway 1 on the border between Thua Thien-Hue Province and Danang City. This is the highest pass in Vietnam (500m above sea level). This rugged pass is the final section of the Truong Son Range stretching to the sea. Hai Van means “Sea Clouds”, since the peak of the mountain is in the clouds while its foot is close to the sea. In the past, Hai Van Pass was known as the Thuan Hoa and Quang Nam frontier. In the early 14th century (11306), Che Man, a king from Cham Pa, offered two mountainous administrative units of O and Ri as engagement gifts to Princess Huyen Tran, daughter of King Tran Nhan Tong. On his way to see off the Princess in the Quang area in a Summer sunny noon, the King and his entourage were on horse back for almost half a day but could not reach the top of the pass. Facing upWards, the King saw a rampart of mountains in dim clouds, and at the foot of the pass, an immense ocean, of waves. Though sorry for his daughter’s difficult journey, the king was comforted by the closer ties between the two nations.
What to explore:
Whenever one goes through Hai Van Pass, two feelings are experienced: amazement at passing through the clouds and fear when seeing the dangerous bends of the road. After climbing through several hair-pin curves for close to an hour, you reach the crest of the Hai Van Pass. Here, if the weather affords it (which it often doesn’t), there are views to both the North and the South. The pass forms an obvious boundary between North and South Vietnam, and if proof were needed, you need look no further than the fortifications built by the French and then later used by the South Vietnamese and the Americans. You will of course want to stop here if you make this trip, but be warned that you will have to fight off a large band of souvenir and snack sellers who are among the most aggressive I encountered during the whole trip.
With sudden curves and blind corners, Hai Van Pass is likened to an arrogant but beautiful girl challenging drivers’ skills. Hai Van is considered to be the largest frontier post in Vietnam. The name “De Nhat Hung Quan”, meaning the most colossal frontier post, is engraved on an incense burner in Thai Temple.
On a journey through the land, Hai Van is always an attractive landscape, full of perilous obstacles and is the last spur of the Truong Son Range reaching to the sea. On the top of the pass are the vestiges of long ago, a fortified gateway. The gate facing to Thua Thien-Hue Province is inscribed with the three words “Hai Van Quan” and the other gate looking down on Quang Nam province is engraved “the most grandiose gateway in the world”. The entrance to Hai Van Quan looks like the entrance to an old citadel with its stone structures. Time, war, and neglect has taken its toll on Hai Van Quan, as it sits today in near ruins. The old story is only a memory, old vestiges covered with green moss, amongvast spaces vast of plants and trees, tourists are filled with the emotions of the past.
The most impressive about the journey is the sense of isolation you feel as you move further along. There is a strange delight about the desolate conditions, a seemingly unbroken asphalt road that cuts through a mass of forest. Below you, the green trees contrast with the breaking waves in the blue sea. And herein lies the beauty of Hai Van. While many rave about the charm of the Bao Loc mountain pass, the road is crowded with people and villages nestled along the way. But just as civilisation characterises the allure of Bao Loc, Hai Van’s beauty is closely connected to nature and its lack of population.
Lining the peak of the mountain is the immense abyss dotted with the light and dark green colours of the trees. The scene is capped off with fanciful clouds flying across the sky. The area is a perfect place to have a cup of coffee and contemplate the scene, looking over Hai Van as if from the heavens as the trees blow with the wind.
Hai Van is well know for its dangerous roads, and accident warning boards carefully appear regularly along the side. It’s a surprising sight to see the animation and modernity at the peak as foreign visitors buzzed about buying souvenirs. Those who do not make it to the peak would have a hard time believing there was such a busy trading and modern scene, as foreign women made their way up the rough staircase at the Hai Van Quan ancient vestige to take photos.
Whatever endowed by nature, time by time and by hands of man will be something of humanitarian values. Coming to Hai Van is to come to the sanction of two land, to satisfy the peak-conquering philosophy, to mix ourselves in to echo of heroic songs of Vietnamese ancients when they went to find new lands to be emotional to prolong past of the Center region where suffering a lot of losses in the course of finding and protecting the nation.
Hai Van Pass will satisfy your desire to conquer high peaks and remind you of the glorious past of the Viet people. Moreover, from the pass, on nice days, visitors can enjoy the whole vista of Danang, the Tien Sa seaport, Son Tra Peninsula, Cu Lao Cham Island and long sandy beaches.
The 21km that stretch over the Hai Van mountain pass may sound like a challenging journey, but after having done, it is certainly that you will find it is one worth taking.
How to get there:
Rent a motorbike from Hoi An or Danang to the south of the Hai Van Pass or from Hue to the north. Motorbikes can be rented through most hotels and guesthouses for between 150-200,000VNĐ ($7-10) a day. You don’t necessarily need a driving license and you don’t necessarily need to leave your passport with the hotel or rental company – everything is negotiable – and certainly don’t leave your passport if you are planning on an overnight trip; all hotels and guesthouses in Vietnam require your passport in order to stay.
The journey between the Hoi An/Danang and Hue via the Hai Van Pass is 100-160km depending on which route you choose to take. Driving time is approximately 3-5 hours, but allow at least another 3 hours for soaking up the scenery, stopping for seafood along the coast, coffee at the top of the pass, and for any unforeseen circumstances, such as bad weather and flat tyres.
Once at the top of the pass, for those who want an even more impressive view, take the narrow concrete path leading up behind the Old Gate. This goes straight up to the communications tower at the top of the mountain. Be warned it’s very steep – you’ll need a powerful bike!
